The Tugs 40' deep max. (13m) |
If you are doing your PADI, NAUI, or IANTD Open Water Certification, and have completed your classroom and pool work, ask your Instructor if you can be referred to G+S to do at least one of your open water portion dives in Tobermory!! |
The Tugs are great for basic dives, open water check-outs, a nice platform for take-off. They are close to the Park registry office and are close to shore. |
The Alice G was blown ashore in 1927 by a gale and reported as a total loss, but her wreck is still fairly in tact and is a popular dive. |
The Robert K. caught fire in June 1935 at her dock, burned through her hawsers and drifted to nearby rocks. The engine, from another vessel, was built in 1881. |
The John & Alex was family-owned fishing tug which caught fire at her dock in the middle of the night and was totally destroyed. The tug was pushed away from her moorings to save the dock and it's ice house and twine sheds. She sank in Big Tub, where her remains are a regular dive target. Owned by W. W. Ransbury & Sons, Tobermory, she was a $15,000 loss. |
The final tug at the site is the Bob Foote. |
