W.L. Wetmore Steamer Depth: 25ft |
Built in 1987 and lost in 1901 during a snowstorm. The Wetmore was known for shipping lumber and towing barges. In 1901, she was towing the barges J. C. King (qv) and Brunette, when she was tossed into the shallows off Russell Island, near Tobermory, by a snowstorm. At first thought to be salvagable, she was later pounded to pieces by waves. The crew straggled to shore in their lifeboats. Only the Brunette was salvaged leaving the wrecks of the Wetmore and King for divers today. |
The wreck has a large amount of timber to dive, a boiler, the anchor, chain and rudder. Incredibly popular for divers of all levels as well as for snorkellers. |
